The student will function as an "acting intern" in the pediatric intensive care unit. The purpose of the rotation is to allow students to establish a foundation for recognition, stabilization, triage, diagnosis, and treatment of seriously or critically ill pediatric patients. Education material is presented via bedside didactic rounds, guided reading of the PICU notebook, a compilation of relevant critical care articles, etc. Night call will be approximately every seventh night. The evaluation is based on subjective faculty critique and a written test.
