The Greenville Hospital System Family Medicine Residency Training Program (FMRTP) offers the opportunity for senior medical students to become involved directly in patient care and management in a clinical setting and to become familiar with the philosophy of family medicine and its holistic approach to patients. There is a full schedule of rounds each morning and formal noon conferences are held most days.  Topics range from newborns to geriatrics including obstetrics and subspecialty topics.  Third-year students from USC complete their core family practice clerkship at the FMRTP as well.

With guidance from the course director, students are given much flexibility to tailor the rotation to their needs.  There is ample opportunity to be involved in both the inpatient and outpatient aspects of Family Medicine.  Procedural skills, practice management training, Obstetrics, nutritional evaluations, behavioral medicine, can also be incorporated into the rotation.

Students are under the direct supervision of third-year residents and the faculty who assist the students in patient management.
