Location: Columbia, South Carolina Duration: 4 weeks Course Offered: Throughout academic year Number of Students: 1 per rotation Students Report To: School of Medicine Campus, Medical Library Building (101), Third Floor, Room 316, 9:00 a.m. Medical students will participate in the evaluation, workup, interpretation of data, formulation of diagnoses, and management of patients with endocrine disorders under the supervision of faculty members. The rotation will stress physiology and interpretation of endocrine studies. Students will care for both in- and outpatients (Palmetto Health Richland and Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center). Students will attend the daily teaching round, weekly case conferences, and monthly journal club. There is a wide spectrum of patient problems dealing with such things as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, goiter, calcium problems, osteoporosis, hypertension, galactorrhea, hirsutism, amenorrhea, pituitary gland problems, hyper- and hypo-function of adrenal glands, and impotence. |
