Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Externship

*USC SOM  Third Year Elective 

The student will participate in outpatient care of patients with hematologic/oncologic problems. The primary goal for the student is to develop a fundamental understanding of a broad base of common hematologic/oncologic disorders which can be expected to be encountered across the spectrum of medical specialties. Responsibilities will include initial history and physical examination of patients assigned, development of a treatment plan, and utilization of a multidisciplinary patient management approach when appropriate. Students will have the opportunity to participate in outpatient management in the various clinics including Sickle Cell, Hemophilia (pediatrics and adult), and neuro-oncology. The student will be expected to be an active participant in all appropriate conferences.
