| SCHEDULING COLUMBIA A class meeting is held in February of the M-III year during which scheduling procedures and forms are explained in detail. Students are given approximately one month to complete the Schedule Request Form, obtain the faculty advisor's signature, and return the form to the USCSM Director of Enrollment Services/Registrar. Schedules will be processed as they are received during the second week. It is recommended that you plug in all your required months first (Senior Surgery, Senior Medicine, AI, Neurology) then schedule your electives. As much flexibility as possible will be allowed throughout the fourth year for changes, but required months cannot always be changed due to limits in the number of students on certain rotations, such as Neurology (7 per rotation) Surgery (9 per rotation). Students will be allowed to swap with other students during these rotations if all are in agreement. Rotation schedules will be developed and distributed to students. Students will then have two weeks to change rotations among themselves before the schedule is finalized and sent to Course Directors. GREENVILLE A meeting is held in February of the M-III year on the Greenville Hospital System (GHS) campus during which scheduling procedures are explained. Students submit schedule requests to the GHS Director of Student Services who prepares the schedule. Completed schedules of GHS students are approved by the GHS Director of Student Services and forwarded to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum for final review and approval. Students assigned to GHS have priority in choice of electives offered at GHS. GHS students may choose to complete some electives in Columbia hospitals. Housing in Columbia is provided for GHS students at the Smith House at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital on a space-available basis. An SCAHEC stipend is also provided. |
