THE SENIOR YEAR

The senior year at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine (USCSM) consists of four required clinical rotations in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, and an Acting Internship (totaling 16 weeks); four elective rotations (totaling 16 weeks); seven weeks allocated for holidays and residency interviews; the opportunity for an additional four-week elective, if desired by the student; and the required final two weeks of the academic year, "Capstone Month." The curriculum of Capstone Month is designed to enhance academic, clinical, medicolegal, and management skills of graduating students in order to assist them in their transition to residency training and clinical practice.
