The objectives of this course are to introduce the student to the epidemiology, physiology, and clinical practice of wilderness and environmental medicine. The course will be taught using lectures, self-study modules, textbook assignments, workshops, and the internet. The final examination will consist of a 3 day practicum that will take place in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Due to the unique nature of this elective, students need to be in good physical condition. Participants will need to supply their own medium weight hiking boots, weatherproof tent, sleeping bag, food, and a medium volume backpack.
